First-rate art works, among them Gustav Klimt’s painting "Pallas Athene" and his portrait of Emilie Flöge, archeological excavations, armor and armory, the so-called Turkish Booty of 1683, objects illustrating the construction history of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and two city models from the nineteenth century make a visit to this museum well worth one’s while.
Friends of literature find a memorial room for the poet and playwright Franz Grillparzer, housing the furniture of his last apartment, including the windows and doors. The original interior of the apartment of architectural pioneer Adolf Loos is also on view. On the ground floor of the museum, special exhibitions on individual Viennese topics are often shown.
