Mice in the mumok

The Museum of Modern Art – mumok presents the most important living proponent of American Pop Art, the performance and installation artist Claes Oldenburg.

With "Claes Oldenburg. The Sixties", the mumok presents the world's biggest ever exhibition of his early work from the 1960s. Oldenburg is not only the main proponent of Pop Art, but, in cooperation with Coosje van Bruggen, has also left a significant mark on art in the public space, with his monumental projects. At the center of his creative work is the industrially produced object.

The mumok shows Oldenburg's most important Pop-Art works: from the installation "The Street", with its graffiti-inspired presentations of modern city life, to the famous consumer item of his shop "The Store" to the spectacular consumer items of the modern "home": telephone, toilette bowl, bathtub, fan, saw, light switch. Another section is dedicated to Oldenburg's first designs of his monumental consumer objects for the public space.

The finale and highlight of the exhibition is formed by the "Mouse Museum" situated within the mumok, an accessible miniature museum in the form of a "Geometric Mouse", for which Oldenburg has collected a total of 381 objects since the late 1950s.
