In Vienna's 5th to 7th districts, several shops invite you to take home the latest sounds, the long sought-after or the newly discovered:
in Vienna-Margareten (5th district), funk and soul enthusiasts should definitely drop by Record Shack, a paradise for aficionados and collectors.
Old and presumed lost, musical treasures wait to be unearthed in neighboring Mariahilf (6th district): in record antique shop Teuchtler, Vienna's hotspot for fans of second-hand recordings. Still a youngster amongst Vienna's record shops is Tongues, just two streets away (large picture). This extraordinary store with attached delicatessen counter offers a fine selection of electronics DJ sounds on vinyl. Rave Up Records has impressed for decades with its wide range of Rock, Electronic Music, Reggae/Dancehall/Dub and Experimental/Avantgarde - on vinyl and CD. Its rarities department is a special tip.
In the neighboring 7th district, Vienna-Neubau, there are two shops on Westbahnstraße: Market - the exquisitely well-stocked vinyl specialist in Techno, Disco and House - and Substance Recordstore, full of vinyls, CDs, books, music DVDs, band shirts and gimmicks as far as the eye can see. The huge range of music - from Techno to Indie-Rock and experimental sounds - has made the store famous beyond the borders of Austria. Another address for collectors is the secondhand record shop, Moses Records, where singles, maxis and LPs can often be bought for just one euro.
